Secat Hosts American Society of Metals (ASM) Classroom Session on Metallographic Techniques
03/15/2006
Secat Inc. offered its conference room facilities to American Society of Metals (ASM International)
to host their class room sessions on Metallographic techniques.
Metallography is an essential component for investigation of microstructural
features that govern final material properties.
The objective of this program is to educate non-metallurgical personnel with the basic concepts
of metallography.
The program started on January 19th, 2006 with an introductory lecture by Prof. Alan Male
of the College of Engineering, University of Kentucky, and over the period of 8 weeks the students
were educated by personnel from both academia and the metallurgical testing industry.
Most of the participants were technical personnel from a local Lexington based company,
L3 Communications, with the remainder being students from the University of Kentucky.
The involvement of the industry and academia provided a platform for the non-metallurgical
technical personnel to enhance their careers by adding new techniques to their repertoire.
