Secat, Inc. Featured at University of Kentucky Scholarship Banquet
11/18/2003

October 23, 2003 – At the University of Kentucky’s Sixth Annual Scholarship Banquet, Dr. Subodh Das, President and CEO of Secat, Inc. was featured speaker to the more than 300 donors, scholarship recipients and their families who attended.

In his address, Dr. Das provided students and parents with a technical firm’s perspective on the why a corporation benefits from a scholarship program as well as the students.

“If we are able to keep the brightest and best students within the industry we represent, it enables us to remain competitive and therefore ensures our industry’s growth,” explained Dr. Das, referring to the Kentucky Aluminum industry. “Working with the students and providing financial support builds a vital link between the industry and our future leaders.”

He added, “What separates the U.S. from the rest of the world is our intellectual capital. If the country is to keep its top notch position in technical fields, we need to nurture our upcoming scientists and young leaders. ”

"[The scholarship banquet is] a wonderful opportunity for those who give so generously to meet those who directly benefit from that generosity," said Sharron Townsend, director of the College's Office of Advancement.

Privately funded scholarships are providing more than one-half million dollars in financial support to some 350 undergraduate engineering students this academic year. Secat, Inc., founded in 1999, has provided tuition scholarships for three consecutive years to students of Materials Engineering.
